A couple dancing in silhouette at sunset on wet sand, mirrored in the water

A wedding story · Bantayan Island, Cebu

Ana & Migs, barefoot.

01 The day

They wanted no ballroom, no shoes and no schedule. We got a sandbar, a borrowed bangka and a sunset that showed up twelve minutes early.

Ana and Migs met on a ferry to Santa Fe, so a Bantayan wedding was never really a question. The ceremony was under a single acacia tree, the reception on the sand, and the guest list was mostly people who had been on that same ferry.

I shot the day with two digital bodies and one roll of black & white film, which became their three darkroom prints. Below is a strip from the day, the way I first saw it: in order, unedited, on a contact sheet.
